Horrifying footage shows the moment when desperate passengers clung to the door of the plane that had opened.
The short clip is enough to make even the most confident of the frequent flyers feel nasty.
Footage from Brazil shows two men holding the door while their companions nervously look out the window.
The men held for 20 minutes until the plane landed safely.
Reports later said a broken support cable was to blame for the shocking incident.
The type of aircraft, Embraer 110 Bandeirante, can usually fly between 15 and 21 passengers.
In this case, he took off at 12.30 with 12 people on board on Tuesday.
He flew from the municipality of Jordao to Rio Branco, in northern Brazil.
Some passengers reported hearing “strange” noises shortly after takeoff.

Panic soon ensued when the left door suddenly opened and the wind blew into the plane.
The door railing then rotated into the propeller of the aircraft’s left engine.
Two men managed to grab the door and keep it closed while the others watched.
Meanwhile, the pilot of the plane deactivated the engine as a precaution. He then managed to steer the plane to a safe landing.
There are no reports of casualties on board.

One passenger, who did not want to be named, told Gessta: “I think they held the door for 20 minutes.
“The company did not explain what happened, whether it was something serious, whether the plane could have crashed, whether it was an acceptable failure.”
A spokesman for Rio Branco Aerotaxi later told reporters that the incident had been referred to the Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aviation Accidents in the country.
They added that since then the plane has been repaired and is now ready to fly again.
