Police in Kelowna are warning the public about fraudulent door-to-door charities in the community.
The RCMP said it had responded to a 16 April signal at 4pm for a suspect who knocked on doors in the 600-block Denali Drive in Dilworth.
The man, who introduced himself as Elijah, was described as a 25-year-old man with an Eastern European accent, wearing a blue and yellow jacket and jeans.
“The suspect was described as persistent and only accepted cash donations,” said Capt. Tammy Lob from RCMP Kelowna.
“Before handing over your hard-earned money, take the time to do your homework and check if the person and organization they claim to represent is legal or not.
In this case, the resident did the right thing and did not hand over cash. A phone call to a reputable cancer foundation confirmed that they were not raising funds in person.
