Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Calgary, calling for 15 to 25 centimeters of snow.

Travelers in and around Calgary this afternoon and evening can expect poor visibility and heavy snow at times. The national weather forecaster warns that heavy snow strips can cause localized eclipses, reducing visibility to zero at times. A Weather Network radar map shows heavy rainfall from west to east through Calgary to Drumheller this afternoon.

Environment Canada has also issued snowfall warnings for much of central and western Alberta, with some 10 to 20 centimeters of snow forecast for some areas.

As the waves continued in Calgary, police announced the intersection of Shaganappi Trail and Country Hills Blvd. NW is closed as crews deal with multiple collisions.

Environment Canada also has snow warnings for Airdrie-Cochrane-Olds-Sundrie, Drumheller-Three Hills and Red Deer near Ponoka. Further north, Edmonton expects up to 15 cm. Drivers on Highway 2 between Calgary and Edmonton can expect slippery sections and poor visibility.

The Cochrane RCMP is urging drivers to avoid traveling if necessary due to dangerous driving conditions in the area, according to a press release.

In the south, meanwhile, wind warnings have been issued for Crowsnest Pass, Waterton Lakes National Park and Cardston-Fort Macleod, with gusts of up to 100 km / h possible.

Snow is expected to stop in most areas by Wednesday. Conditions will improve significantly by Friday, with sunshine forecast.
