Three people have been arrested and another woman is wanted for kidnapping after police found a person detained against her will in Markham, Ont. hotel.
According to the York Regional Police, officers received a call on April 14 from Montreal police about a woman who may have been abducted.
Officials said they learned the victim had gambled with a suspected woman who suggested the victim might borrow money from a company she knew provided large loans.
The victim borrowed a significant amount of money, but then continued to lose it while gambling, police said.
It is alleged that the suspects held the victim against her will while demanding that she return the money.
On April 15, police said they found the victim at a hotel in Markham and detained her against her will. She was not physically injured.

Police say they have detained three suspects, but a warrant for a fourth suspect remains unfulfilled.
A 44-year-old woman from Niagara Falls, Bing Khan, is wanted on a kidnapping charge.
Police have charged 37-year-old Shichao Dong, 26-year-old Zeping Gao and 23-year-old Jeep Dong with the same charges.
Shichao Dong also faces charges of possession of firearms, careless possession of firearms, careless storage of ammunition and unauthorized possession of a device or ammunition.
