SURRY, British Columbia –
The husband and twin daughters of a British Columbian woman who died after being hit by a moving delivery van are being sued by two logistics companies and Amazon.
Paramjit Masuta was walking his eight-year-old twins from school on December 15, 2020, when an unoccupied vehicle rushed towards them.
The mother sacrifices her own life by pushing her daughters out of the way.
“The two children will be traumatized for the rest of their lives because they saw their mother killed in front of their eyes,” said lawyer Bridge Mohan.
A notice of civil action has been filed in the Supreme Court of British Columbia, indicating the driver, Damy Logistics Ltd., Amazon Canada Fulfillment Services Inc., and Foss National Leasing Ltd. as defendants.
“Paramjit was seriously injured in the collision,” it said.
“My clients are looking for recognition that their lives have been turned upside down without any guilt,” Moha said.
During the crash, firefighters and paramedics tried to resuscitate Masuta, who has been described as a “beautiful mother,” but failed to save her life. Mounties described in detail how the van collided with another vehicle before jumping on the sidewalk near 61A Avenue.
The case alleges that the delivery van was not parked safely or legally. It also calls into question the mechanical condition of the vehicle, including its brakes.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
“They have lost everything,” Mohan said. “The mother was the main central pillar of the house, holding everyone together – the children, the husband. The happiness in their family has been stolen from them. ”
None of the defendants responded to the claims.
