Elon Musk attacks Netflix for losing subscribers, says “Awakening virus makes Netflix invisible”

Big news on Tuesday affected Netflix, whose disappointing first-quarter earnings report revealed that the streaming giant had lost more than 200,000 subscribers – the first time it had lost subscribers in 10 years. (Netflix previously estimated that it would gain 2.5 million subscribers in Q1; in the meantime, shutting down its service in Russia cost it 700,000 subscribers.)

The disappointing Netflix earnings report caused its share price to fall by about 23 percent – and one person who seemed to be celebrating the news was Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the world’s richest man with a net worth of more than 260 billion dollars.

In response to a report on Netflix’s disappointing figures, Musk tweeted late Tuesday night: “Awakened mind virus makes Netflix invisible.”

When a user replied to Musk that “the virus of awakening the mind is the greatest threat to civilization,” Musk agreed and replied, “Yes.”

Another user passing by @nichegamer tweeted to Musk, saying: “Not just Netflix. Movies in general, video games, television, everything is infected with the current year, the trend has aroused garbage for fear of offending the green-haired freak to the ban button. Nothing original anymore, except the media coming from places like Japan or Korea, ironically.

Again, Musk replied, “True,” adding, “Can they make science fiction / fantasy at least * mostly * science fiction / fantasy.”

It is interesting for Musk – who recently swallowed billions of dollars in shares of Twitter in an attempt to influence the company before making an offer of 43 billion dollars to buy it directly – to criticize Netflix, given that the streamer has partnered with him in a number of mockery of documentary projects, incl Countdown: Inspiration4 Mission to Spacea documentary series describing the orbital mission of SpaceX Inspiration4, and Return to spaceOscar-winning documentary by Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Tea Vasarheli (Free solo) hosts viewers at Musk’s aerospace company SpaceX.

Emphasizing the “awakened mind virus”, Musk seems to oppose Netflix’s attempts to offer more diverse content on its platform. In recent years, the streamer has made greater efforts to emphasize the telling of LGBTQ + stories with his single “Most” – despite the recent reaction to Dave Chapel’s special transphobic stand-up special.
