Everton formation
With the way Everton have played 4-2-3-1 in the last few games, I actually think the absence of Dominic Calvert-Luin could be of little use.
The most influential player ahead in these matches is Alex Iwobi. His creativity in the middle of the field is the main path that the Blues use in their attempts to break sides and create chances.
With the best will in the world, that doesn’t really fit the Calvert-Lewin style, does it? It is much more suitable for centers in the penalty area, using its excellent ability to target or enter dangerous areas in the field of six yards.
Richardson could be a much better recipient of this work than Iwobi if he stays at that high level. He is more likely to make these runs behind the central defenders to enter the end of the dangerous balls, and he is more likely to retreat and join the movement a little earlier.
Plus, the Brazilian still maintains a great level of physical activity and air ability to recharge. Even if Calvert-Luin was fit for the game, in his current form and the way Everton lined up, I would be tempted to let him go in favor of Demaray Gray on the flank.
