Sylmar plane crash on embankment near NB 210 highway kills 1, LAFD reports

SILMAR, Calif. (KABC) – A man died Wednesday afternoon when a small plane crashed into an embankment along North Highway 210 in Silmar, a Los Angeles fire department said.

The plane with a fixed wing crashed shortly before 12:30 pm near Hubbard Street, causing a small fuel leak that did not cause a fire, a LAFD statement said. The identity of the deceased was not immediately disclosed.

“After a thorough search of all the empty spaces on the plane, firefighters found no other victims,” ​​the press release said.

Traffic north on the highway was backed up at the scene as more than a dozen city firefighters sifted through the wreckage. The body of the deceased was not removed immediately. One lane was closed.

The destination of the plane and the cause of the crash are unknown.

Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were on their way to the crash site.
