The body of a young boy was found hidden in a suitcase in Indiana.

The unidentified child was found by a mushroom hunter in a wooded area of Washington County over the weekend.

State police said the hard suitcase had a distinctive Las Vegas design at the front and rear, as forces urged anyone with information to come forward.

Officials believe the boy was between five and eight years old, but an autopsy could not confirm his age or the cause of death.

The results of a toxicology report showing whether there were any drugs in the boy’s body are still pending.

Police believe the boy, who is described as black, slender and short-haired, has died sometime in the past week.

An alert line was set up on Monday and generated about 200 calls from members of the public, but none of the responses led to the identification of the boy, an Indiana State Police said in a statement.

“We’ve contacted local agencies, not only here in Indiana, but in Kentucky and Ohio,” said Sergeant Kerry Hulls. “We don’t have a name yet.”

He added that investigators initially thought the boy was from the area, but had not received any advice or information about a missing child in the region, and now believe it may be from elsewhere.

Anyone with information about the boy is asked to call 1-888-437-6432.
