Boris Johnson defends proposal to postpone partygate’s “dishonesty” investigation until MEPs have “complete facts”

Sir Keir Starmer told PMQ yesterday that Boris Johnson had “accused the BBC of not being critical enough of Putin” in response to comments made by the prime minister in a private meeting with Tory MPs.

Mr Johnson told Sir Cair he had not said “anything like that”, and Oliver Dowden, chairman of the Conservative Party, has now called on the Labor leader to formally withdraw the request (you can read the whole story here).

Nadhim Zahawi, the education minister, has now accused Sir Keir of “unintentionally” misleading parliament while calling for an apology.

He told Sky News: “If you just want to play politics with this, as Keir Starmer somehow found out yesterday, because he probably misled Parliament inadvertently, because he got too excited and …”

He continued: “Because he accused the Prime Minister of something for which there was obviously no evidence.

“He accused the prime minister of attacking the BBC for covering them in Ukraine. The Prime Minister did not do that, and by accusing him of making a mistake on the box, he must come and apologize and resign. ”
