After acquiring Fitbit more than a year ago, Google is finally getting ready to launch its own smartwatch this year, at the Google I / O event in May this year. Called the Pixel Watch, Google’s new wearable device is built around Google’s new Wear OS platform and aims to provide the best Android wearable experience.

A leak from 91Mobiles shows that the Pixel Watch has several key integrations from Fitbit, and new design leaks also show that Google is showing these integrations quite noticeably. The watch will be available with the latest version of Wear OS, the as yet unannounced version called Wear OS 3.1.

The round face will most likely be frameless. This was possible only due to the fact that Google has taken up a curved display that narrows in the body of the watch at the edges. The Pixel Watch also has a rotating crown that also doubles as a button, just like the Apple Watch. What functions the button serves and whether it can be reassigned or not remains to be seen.

The fact that Google was preparing to launch its own smartwatch became apparent when, after months of discussions, they finally acquired Fitbit in 2021 for $ 2.1 billion. Despite its acquisition, Google has continued with the Fitbit brand and will launch newer models under the brand, which will be powered by the new Wear OS.

Wear OS 3 debuted with the Galaxy Watch 4 last year. However, there is still no update. In addition, the Wear OS we see has Samsung’s own skin.

Samsung Watch 4 was the first smartwatch to come with Wear OS 3, but with Samsung’s own skin.

During the acquisition, Rick Osterlo, Google’s vice president of devices, issued a statement saying: “We are confident in combining Fitbit’s leading technology, product experience and health and wellness innovation with Google’s best AI software. and hardware will lead to more competition in wearable devices and make the next generation of devices better and more affordable. ”

In addition to the Pixel Watch, Google will also release the cheap Pixel 6a, which will be powered by the same Tensor processor as Google’s current flagship, the Pixel 6.
