Lawyers for Johnny Depp’s ex-wife Amber Heard questioned the Pirates of the Caribbean star on Thursday in his defamation case, showing jurors text messages in which Depp mentions a “monster” inside him that he controls.
Depp, 58, is suing Hurd, 35, for $ 50 million in a Virginia court after she accused him of ill-treatment. He claims that Hurd is the one who became violent in the relationship.
Beginning with Depp’s cross-examination, Hurd’s lawyers read text messages Depp sent in 2015, near the beginning of their approximately two-year marriage.
“We were perfect. All I had to do was send the monster and close it, we were happier than ever,” he wrote to a former security guard.
“Amber and I were absolutely perfect … I locked my monstrous child in a cage deep inside and it worked,” Depp said in a text to one of his doctors.
Depp said Hurd used the word monster to describe when he thought he was using drugs or alcohol, although he said her perception was not always accurate.

Depp uses disturbing language in texts related to Hurd
In other texts to friends or associates, Depp calls Hurd a “dirty whore” and other names.
Writing to actor Paul Bethany in 2013, Depp commented on Hurd’s drowning and burning, and then sex with her dead body.
Depp apologized to Hurd in a text in 2014, saying he was “savage” and “gone too far.”
Depp told a jury in Virginia on Wednesday that Hurd would “slap” or slap. During an argument, Hurd threw a bottle of vodka at Depp’s arm, cutting off the top of his right middle finger, he said. Another time, Hurd hit him repeatedly, he said.

Introductory statements begin in the case of Johnny Depp against his ex-wife Amber Heard
Introductory statements began on Tuesday in a US $ 50 million defamation lawsuit filed by actor Johnny Depp against his ex-wife Amber Heard. Depp says she slandered him in a 2018 newspaper for domestic violence. Depp was not mentioned in the article. 3:35
In a separate lawsuit in Britain, Hurd denied throwing a bottle and cutting off Depp’s finger. She said she threw things just to escape when he beat her, and hit him once because she was afraid she would push her sister down the stairs.
Depp said he never hit Hurd or any other woman. He accused Hurd, also an actor, of slandering him when she wrote a December 2018 opinion in the Washington Post that she had survived domestic violence.
The article never mentions Depp by name, but his lawyer told the jury that it was clear that Hurd meant the main man in Hollywood.
Depp said Hurd’s allegations cost him “nothing less than anything.” A new movie, Pirates, has been stopped and Depp has been excluded from the Fantastic Beasts franchise, a Harry Potter spin-off.
Hurd’s lawyers claim that she told the truth and that her opinion is protected by freedom of speech under the First Amendment to the US Constitution. In initial arguments, Hurd’s lawyers said Depp raped her physically and sexually while abusing drugs and alcohol.

A judge at Fairfax County Court in Virginia is overseeing the trial, which is in its second week and is expected to last six weeks.
Less than two years ago, Depp lost a defamation lawsuit against The Sun, a British tabloid that called him a “women’s fighter.” A judge at the London Supreme Court ruled that he had repeatedly attacked Hurd.
Depp’s lawyers said they took the U.S. case to Fairfax County, outside the nation’s capital, because the Washington Post was printed there. The newspaper is not accused.
Hurd, best known for his roles in Aquaman and the Justice League, and Depp have been married for about two years. Their divorce was finalized in 2017.
Hurd has filed her own defamation lawsuit against Depp, claiming that he slandered her by calling her a liar. Hurd’s $ 100 million counterclaim will be resolved as part of the process.
