Master David Bonola is arrested in the case of the murdered mother of Queens, stabbed more than 55 times

FORUST HILLS, Queens (WABC) – A man has been arrested for the horrific murder of a mother whose body was found in a luggage bag in Queens

David Bonola, 44, arrived at the 112th New York City Police Department, where he was interviewed in connection with the death of 51-year-old Orsola Gaal, and was later detained.

He now faces charges of murder, criminal manipulation and possession of a weapon.

Detectives decided to take him and were in his neighborhood around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday when he went to the police and said, “I hear you’re looking for me.”

He then apparently continued to make full confessions.

Bonola knew Gaal from work at her house and knew where to find the key, which allegedly allowed him to stab her to death while her 13-year-old son was upstairs, unaware of what was happening to his mother.

Police held a press conference Thursday morning, revealing that Bonola had had an intimate relationship with Gaal for about two years.

“We believe that Mr. Bonola’s relationship with our victim was an intimate relationship. And this comes down to the everyday type of argument they have about their intimate relationships. “They’re starting to get into regular domestic problems that seem to be happening between them,” said Lt. Timothy Thompson of the Queens North Homicide Division in New York.

Gaal was at a bar on Friday night, the night of her murder, around 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

About ten minutes later, police said Bonola showed up to talk to her about their relationship, police said. Either they let him go, or he used a key hidden in a barbecue. They had a heated argument in the basement of the house.

A knife was brandished, and NYPD chief of staff James Esig said Gaal had been stabbed “mercilessly and brutally more than 55 times.”

Gaal was dragged through the neighborhood in a large bag, leaving what Esig described as “a bloody trail through the streets of Forest Hills.” Her body bag was abandoned on Jackie Robinson Parkway Street.

The observation image is said to be crucial to the case. It shows a man believed to be Bonola dragging his bag just before dawn.

After the body was dumped, police say Bonola fled through the park, where investigators found his jacket. They also found bloody bandages during the investigation and learned that Bonola had been treated for wounds on both his hands at a local hospital, Esig said.

Gaal’s husband was out of town with their older son, and their younger son was in the upstairs bedroom at the time of the murder.

Police believe Bonola sent a text message to Gaal’s husband from her phone after the murder, citing a previous crime and showing that the rest of the family is in danger.

Police said there had been no past crime and there was no danger to Gaal’s wife and two children.

Police say Bonola arrived in the United States 21 years ago from Mexico.
