The extradition hearing of a man accused of being a fugitive from the United States who falsified his death to avoid accusations of sex has been postponed again.
The man claims to be Arthur Knight, 34, a victim of a mistaken identity who has never been to America.
U.S. officials say he is the wanted man in connection with the 2008 rape of a 21-year-old in Utah.
He also allegedly attacked women in Ohio, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
He was arrested at a Glasgow hospital in January after seeking treatment for COVID.
Utah prosecutors say he was hiding in Scotland and “trying to get investigators and state lawmakers in other states to believe he died.”
At a court hearing in Edinburgh for his extradition, he wore an oxygen mask and arrived in a wheelchair.
He answered “no, I’m not” when asked if it was Nicholas Rossi. His lawyer, Becky Houston, told the court he represented “Mr. Knight.”
The court ruled that his identity remained in dispute.
Ms. Houston requested that the full extradition hearing scheduled for May 5 be “released,” and Sheriff Norman McFaddie agreed to hold a preliminary hearing on that date.

The full extradition hearing is scheduled for June 9, with the conditions for the man’s release pending.
He was arrested a second time when he missed the initial extradition hearing in January and then failed to appear with a lawyer at an earlier court date in April.
