Omarosa Manigolt Newman, a former aide to Donald Trump who has become a critic of Trump, has received more than $ 1.3 million in court fees and costs arising from the 2018 lawsuit against her by former President Trump.

The American Arbitration Association ruled on Tuesday.

Trump’s campaign sued Manigolt Newman in 2018, claiming that her 368-page revelation – “Unhinged: An Insider’s Account of the Trump White House” – meant that the former aide violated her non-disclosure agreement.

Unhinged was released after Manigolt Newman – who first met Trump as a contestant on his reality show “The Apprentice” – was fired in December 2017 from his long tenure in the Trump administration.

It contained many embarrassing anecdotes about Trump, including a story about how Manigolt Newman once joined the former president, who eats a piece of paper in the Oval Office. In his memoirs, Manigolt Newman also accused Trump of saying the “N-word” several times, claiming that there was a tape from the making of his reality show “The Apprentice” that could prove it.

Manigolt Newman said in 2018 that he had a “treasure trove” of obscene videos, emails and texts about Trump and threatened to release them if he and his team continued to challenge the allegations she made in her book.

In September 2021, Trump lost a three-year legal battle trying to enforce this non-disclosure agreement with Manigolt Newman.

Tuesday’s decision instructed Trump’s campaign to pay Manigolt Newman a total of $ 1,293,568.75 in attorney’s fees and $ 17,304.73 in additional costs totaling $ 1,310,873.48. According to the documentation, Manigolt Newman initially asked to be awarded more than $ 3.4 million. The final award is based on the judge’s calculations of her lawyer’s paid hours.

“First-year law student against the entire legal team of # 45. (David v. Goliath)…… Now excuse me as I return to my final contract law exam, ”tweeted Manigolt Newman on Wednesday night in response to the award.

In a statement to CNBC, Manigault Newman’s attorney John Phillips said the large amount of attorney’s fees awarded would hopefully “send a message that gun disputes will not be tolerated.” Phillips added that he hoped the decision “would allow other lawyers to stand up and fight for the whistleblower and voice critic against the oppressive machine.”

“We look forward to receiving a check and will donate some of the proceeds to groups that oppose speech suppression,” Phillips told the publication.
