A new outbreak of COVID-19 has been announced at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, while only one more case of COVID-19 has been detected in the outbreak of Kelowna General Hospital.

The new outbreak at the VJH’s 3rd Northern Medical Unit was announced on Thursday, and to date, five cases have been linked to the hospital. There are currently no deaths related to the outbreak.

The outbreak in the KGH Rehabilitation Unit was announced on April 12 and there are already 21 cases related to the outbreak. Internal Health says none of the patients who became infected with the virus have died.

There are currently 10 active COVID-19 outbreaks in domestic health facilities, including four that were announced this week.

These include outbreaks of long-term care homes in Penticton’s Haven Hill and Kootenay Street Village in Cranbrook, announced on April 19, the Vernon The Hamlets long-term care home, announced on April 20, and the VJH outbreak, announced on April 21.

As of Thursday, 103 people in the Ministry of Interior were hospitalized with COVID-19, seven of which are being treated in intensive care.
