Days after announcing that it had rejected 41 percent of publishers’ math textbooks – some because of references to critical racial theory and other “forbidden” topics – the Florida Department of Education released four examples of lessons it considered for unacceptable.
Last week, the department said some of the rejected textbooks – 54 out of 132 – did not meet Florida content standards, called “Student Excellence Thinkers” or BEST, while others were rejected on the subject. “Reasons for rejecting textbooks include references to critical race theory (CRT), Common Core inclusion, and the unwanted addition of socio-emotional learning (SEL) in mathematics,” it said.
