The girl was brutally attacked right in front of Hugh Boyd’s headquarters on Thursday
A 14-year-old girl was taken to hospital after being knocked unconscious by an older student right in front of Hugh Boyd Secondary’s headquarters.
The girl – who was identified by her family as a 9th grader, Janice C. – was apparently viciously attacked because the boy mistakenly believed she had commented on another girl who liked him.
Her stunned father, Tim Sorensen, told Richmond News that the unprovoked attack took place around noon on Thursday in the hallway in front of the school’s main office in West Richmond.
Kick and fist while on the ground
Sorensen said several students tried to pull the boy away from his daughter, who was reportedly kicked and punched in the face while lying on the ground.
He learns from Janice’s friends that her head hit a nearby wall and the ground during the incident.
“She was released from the hospital last night. There is obviously a concussion and it is mainly a head injury, although it has been kicked elsewhere, “Sorensen said.
“She has a lot of cuts and bruises and she must have bitten her tongue at some point.
“It was all because he was told on the other hand that she said a girl liked him.
“I think it got dark when it hit the ground. But he kept hitting her. Some of the other students tried to pull the man away, but then he turned to them.
School staff attend “immediately”
A spokesman for the Richmond School District said the school administration “responded immediately to the incident” and that “a student immediately called his parents and informed the school administration that he had done so.”
“The school administration continued to deal with the incident. The parents arrived on the scene, contacted the school administration and went to the hospital with their child.
“The father returned the same day and was in conversation with the school administration. Additional talks were held today with parents and the school administration. “
The spokesman confirmed that the student in question was not in school at the moment. The district guidelines are being followed and the district is currently providing additional advisory support. “
Sorensen said his daughter was more solid than I could have imagined and looked good. But she was more like “what happened?” She didn’t expect that. “
He said his daughter had some martial arts training and tried to push him away, but she was caught completely unprepared.
Sorensen said he was angry that he needed to learn about the attack from one of his daughter’s friends, not from school.
However, on Friday morning, when leaving another child, he said he was approached by the school’s deputy principal, who was apparently one of the first on the scene and intervened before calling emergency services.
Sorensen understands from the police that the boy will be charged and believes that he was removed from the school at least until the court date.
“I want to see something happen, I’m not sure what,” Sorensen added.
“Will it just be a blow to the wrist?” A man hits a woman? what are you talking about?”
The Richmond RCMP confirmed to News that it was investigating “an alleged attack on a local high school”.
However, due to “the nature of this investigation, including the protection of privacy under the Juvenile Criminal Justice Act, no additional information will be published.”
The RCMP spokesman added that the police recognized the potential impact that such a situation could have on the school community. We work with our partners in the Richmond School District.
“We want to reassure the public that we are working with the Richmond School District to ensure the safety and well-being of those directly involved, as well as the entire school community.
“The Richmond RCMP Youth Section conducted the investigation.”
