A 4-year-old child in Louisiana died on Thursday after her grandmother allegedly forced her to drink a bottle of whiskey after she believed the child could have taken a sip.
Baton Rouge police said China Record’s 4-year-old mother watched her drink more than half a full bottle of whiskey, according to WGMB, a subsidiary of Fox.
The 4-year-old girl’s blood alcohol level was 0.680 when police arrived at the family’s home on Thursday morning.
Her blood alcohol level is more than eight times the legal limit for driving people over the age of 21, which is 0.08.
Roxana Record, 53, a grandmother, and Kaja Record, a 28-year-old mother, were charged with first-degree murder, according to police.
The booking documents for the individuals state that they were both angry after China took a sip from a bottle of Canadian Mist whiskey.
Roxana said the bottle was “over half full” when she forced China to drink the rest of it on her knees while her mother Kaja was present, according to documents.
Police say Roxana’s mother was “present and unable to stop” “providing the alcohol”, adding that the child had been put in a bathtub and had not responded.
Roxana is said to have said “this has gone too far” and she is “ruining everyone’s life” after she was arrested, according to The Advocate.
