F1 Sprint LIVE: Results and online positions while Max Verstappen wins and Lewis Hamilton fights at the Emilia Romagna Grand

Sainz Jr. handed over a new contract with Ferrari while Formula One headed for Imola

Watch the live broadcast while Max Verstappen starts the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix on Sunday in pole position, after a dramatically late overtaking of Charles Leclerc during Saturday’s sprint race, which led him to victory and first place for the Grand Prix itself.

The Dutchman started at the front in Imola before losing the lead to Leclerc in the first lap after a slow escape. But after a frantic 21-lap run, Verstappen thwarted Ferrari’s return party by making his way in front of Leclerc’s Variante Tamburello to take the checkered flag and pole position for tomorrow’s main event.

But there was more misfortune for Lewis Hamilton after he started 13th and finished only 14th – 24 hours after both Mercedes cars failed to reach Q3 for the first time in almost 10 years during qualifying in Imola on Friday night.

Elsewhere in the sprint race, Sergio Perez took third place ahead of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz – who rose from P10 to P4 with a number of brilliant overtaking – with Lando Norris fifth for McLaren, coming down from third place.

Red Bull and Ferrari storm ahead

Red Bull and Ferrari are clearly the two fastest teams this season. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz moved from 10th to fourth and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez from seventh to third during the sprint race while Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc battled for first place.

However, there are many concerns for Mercedes. In total, they lost one place in their starting positions, as Lewis Hamilton fell to P14.

My start was not very good. It took some time to put pressure. I think we were a little better with our tires towards the end of the race. We had a good battle in the second row. ”
