TL; DR
- Images of what could be a prototype of the Google Pixel Watch have been published on the Internet.
- The device, which was reportedly left in a restaurant in the United States, is very similar to the previously leaked renderings of the Pixel Watch.
- It is rumored that the wearable device will first appear on Google I / O in May 2022.
In an incident that looks a bit like the leak of the iPhone 4 prototype more than 10 years ago, Android Central posted images of what appears to be a prototype of the Google Pixel Watch. The photos come from an anonymous source who claims to have found the device in a restaurant somewhere in the United States.
The device looks very similar to leaked renderings of the reported Pixel Watch. According to an anonymous source, the wearable device also comes with a box stating that the device is for internal testing and development only. He also said that “the markings and packaging are not final”. This means that the final product may have some differences compared to this reported prototype.
The photos of the black smartwatch seem to show at least one button next to the crown. The source said that the back of the watch “looks metal, but it feels like it is covered with glass.” The man who left this prototype also left behind a blue watch strap that appears to connect directly to the watch case.
Apparently there is no charger left with this prototype, although it is likely that the Pixel Watch has a charging plate on the rear case.
Earlier this week, Google applied for a trademark for the Pixel Watch, which until the image leaked was stronger evidence that the device was indeed on the way. Another report claims that based on some Wear OS code, the watch may have a Samsung Exynos chipset inside. Google may officially announce the watch as part of its annual I / O 2022 developer conference, which begins on May 11.
