Four people, including three children, died in a fire in Philadelphia

Four people – including three children – were killed when a fire broke out in a house in Philadelphia on Sunday morning, a fire official said.

A fifth man was hospitalized after they jumped out of a two-story home to escape the fire on Hartville Street in Kensington, Philadelphia Fire Department spokeswoman Katie Mathison said in a statement.

“Despite the aggressive internal attack by firefighters, four people did not survive; three of them were children, “Mathison said.

Philadelphia firefighters responded to the blaze shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday morning and found a “heavy fire coming from both floors” of the house and brought it under control within half an hour, the statement said.

More than 60 PFD officers responded to the fire, according to the statement. The fire department is investigating the cause of the fire, and the forensic medical service will determine the cause of death, Mattison said.
