Chicago shooting: 41 shots, 7 deadly, over weekend violence in the city, CPD says

CHICAGO – At least 41 people were shot dead, seven dead, in a shooting in Chicago over the weekend, police said.

The shooting took place from 6 pm on Friday to 11:59 pm on Sunday night, and the victims ranged in age from 16 to 65.

The last shooting took place shortly before 11pm on Sunday in the 3000 block of North Winthrop Avenue Edgewater, where he clashed between three people on the sidewalk. One man started firing at both victims, hitting them both.

Among the shootings this weekend was in River North, where there have been many fears about crime recently.

A 20-year-old man was seriously injured on Saturday night when he confronted the shooter after a previous incident in the 100-block on West Hubbard Street around 10 p.m.

The man shot him several times. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Two men were killed and two others were injured in a shooting Saturday night in West Englewood, South. The group was standing on the sidewalk at about 7:30 p.m. in the 1900 block on West Garfield Boulevard when someone in a gray vehicle opened fire on them, Chicago police said. A 42-year-old man who was shot repeatedly was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Another 48-year-old man also received multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died. A third man, aged 24, was hit in the back and arm and taken in serious condition to the University of Chicago, police said. A 65-year-old man has gunshot wounds to his back and legs and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Hours later, police responded to the shooting and found Alexis Daniel Velazquez Guadarama, 26, on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest in block 6200 on South Francisco Avenue shortly after 11:30 p.m., police said. He was pronounced dead on the spot, police said.

A man was fatally shot Saturday afternoon after a battle in South Bronsville. At around 1 pm, the man was at home in block 4700 on South Cottage Grove Avenue when he was shot in the chest after fighting with another man, Chicago police said. He was rushed to the University of Chicago, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His name was not disclosed.

A man was shot and killed after an argument Sunday morning at West Garfield Park on the West Side. The 57-year-old man was arguing with someone in the 400-block South Pulaski Road around 4:45 a.m. when he was shot several times in the body, police said. He was pronounced dead on the spot, police said. His name has not yet been released. According to the police, the shooter got into a car and fled the scene.

A man was seriously injured by Chicago police in a shooting Friday in Pullman in the Far South. At around 5:40 p.m., police responded to a call from a man with a gun in block 11200 on South Langley Avenue, according to police spokesman Tom Ahern. When the officers arrived, they met the man on the street and he pointed a gun at them. Police then fired, hitting the man, Ahern said. It is unclear whether more than one employee fired. The man, whose age is unknown, was taken in critical condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lone, according to the Chicago Fire Department. There are no other details about his injuries. No police officers were injured in the incident, Ahern said, adding that two pistols and a knife were found at the scene.

Three people were injured in a shooting on Saturday afternoon in the Middle West Side. The group was on the sidewalk around 3:35 pm in block 1400 on West Wilcox Street when a vehicle passed by and someone inside fired, police said. A 30-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and taken to West Suburban Hospital in good condition, police said. Another 28-year-old man was hit in the shoulder and taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. A third man, 43, was hit in the arm and taken to Stroger in good condition, police said.

A 16-year-old boy was injured in a shooting Saturday night in Little Village on the southwest side. The teenager was on the sidewalk around 7:25 pm in block 2400 on West 25th Street when someone opened fire, police said. He was shot in the chest and taken by a family member to a hospital in good condition, police said.

Hours later, a 17-year-old girl was found in the back of a house in block 3600 on West Douglas Boulevard around 1:10 a.m. with gunshot wounds to both legs, police said. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she is in good condition, police said.
