Google’s Pixel Watch breaks the cover into real-world photos

(Pocket-lint) – A pre-production sample of what is thought to be Google’s upcoming Pixel Watch has been left in a restaurant, finding its way into the real world for everyone to see.

In a move reminiscent of the time when the iPhone 4 was left in a bar in 2010, the discovery of the Pixel Watch has swept many languages.

First of all, the hardware seems to be the same as the previous expiring images that were shared in 2021. It is a round watch with an elegant minimalist design, with a crown on the right side.

It appears to have domed glass and is frameless. By that we mean that there is no bulky case or traditional watch frame – but there is still a slight border around the visible area of the screen. In this sense, it is very similar to the Apple Watch, but round.

The other interesting detail is that it seems to use its own straps that attach to the side of the case, again like the Apple Watch. This suggests that it is unlikely to be compatible with conventional straps – Google probably wants to sell you a range of straps in different colors and materials.

Two other buttons appear on the side of the crown, which can activate navigation or other controls and save you from using touch for everything.

There seems to be a set of pogo pins in one of the strap compartments. This is a four-pin array similar to the one used by Garmin. It is not clear at this time what they are doing: Android Central suggests that they may be part of a prototype that never appears in the retail model – but also, this may be an option for a physical boot connection, it may would as a backup.

It is assumed that the watch will use wireless charging, most likely through a magnetic charger that attaches to the back of the watch. The initial expired device launched a thread in Reddit, which suggests that there was jitter activity when the Qi charger was placed on the back, but they failed to charge it.

Microphone and speaker slots can be seen on the watch case and we expect Google Assistant to play a big role in the use of the watch – as with other WearOS devices.

Speaking of the operating system – since the battery of the watch is already exhausted and can not be charged, there are no details about the working part of the device. There is an image showing the Google “G” logo, but it is reported that there is no operating system, so it may be just a hardware sample.

The operating system is expected to be WearOS 3, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4.

The heart rate sensor can be clearly seen on the back of the watch, and the original leaking signal says it’s a premium design, clearly designed to compete with the Apple Watch. They also provided an image via Reddit showing the devices side by side.

In the last few weeks, we’ve moved from a rather precarious position on the Pixel Watch to one that feels like it’s about to launch. We expect it to be unveiled on Google I / O in May 2022 – and we suspect there will be many more leaks.
