Armed police were called to an incident at a school in Surrey after a “suspicious phone call”. Students and teachers were detained at Esher C High School today (Monday, April 25), but have since been allowed to leave the premises.
There was a large police presence on the scene, with armed guards guarding the school’s doors. Employees were called to the school for the first time at 11:15 a.m.
A spokesman for the Surrey police said: “Uniformed and armed officers are continuing to investigate both inside and outside the premises to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“We are working with the school as part of these inquiries. Students and staff will remain in the school building as a precautionary measure at present.
“We hope they will be able to leave the premises soon. Contrary to social media speculation, we have not found any weapons at the scene.”
The force later said: “Officers completed a search after a suspicious phone call to #Esher C from E High School at 11:15 a.m. today.
“Nothing of concern has been identified and no arrests have been made so far. Thanks to the staff, students and parents for their cooperation and patience. The investigation is ongoing. “
SurreyLive turned to both the school and the police for comment. A school spokesman said they were not providing any information at this time.
A message seen by SurreyLive, apparently sent to parents by the school, advises that all students are safe. It was added that parents should not come to school at this time.
