News in Ukraine: BC has immediate MSP coverage for refugees

The British Columbia government is introducing MSP coverage for the day of arrival for Ukrainians coming to the country with visas.

People fleeing Ukraine and arriving in British Columbia on visas will now be able to access medical services through SME coverage.

The announcement, made Monday by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, comes amid Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

Most Ukrainians coming to British Columbia are expected to arrive through the Canada-Ukraine Federal Emergency Travel Program (CUAET). According to the British Columbia government, Canada has received more than 163,000 applications from Ukrainians.

“That’s why our government is working in different ministries to ensure that eligible newcomers who arrive have access to the service and support they need when they need it, to ensure the smoothest possible landing. after an unimaginable ordeal, ”BC Municipal Affairs Minister Nathan Cullen said in a statement.

People from Ukraine must apply for SMEs as soon as they arrive, the statement said.

Health Minister Adrian Dix says this will provide them with appropriate health support.

“By providing people arriving in British Columbia from Ukraine with SME coverage for the day of arrival, we are doing what we can for one of the most important aspects of their trip: health and safety,” Dix said.

According to CUAET, Ukrainians and their family members can apply for a three-year temporary residence visa or open work permit.

There is no limit to the number of Ukrainians who can apply.
