A Kansas lawmaker said she was not excited to share a toilet with her “huge” transgender Democrat counterpart.
Representative Cheryl Helmer voiced her position in an April 23 email to Brennan Riffer, a University of Kansas student who described herself as trans-feminine, saying, “Personally, I don’t appreciate the huge transgender woman who is now in our toilets in the Capitol.” writes The Washington Times.
Helmer was referring to MP Stephanie Byers, the first elected transgender MP in the state.

Fox News approached her and Byers.
Responding to remarks, House Speaker Ron Rickman Jr., a Republican from Kansas City, said “it is unfortunate that these words were said.”
The e-mail came when the Republican-controlled legislature sought to lift Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly’s veto to ban K-12 transgender athletes and college sports for girls and women.
State Senate lawmakers recently voted 28 to 10 to lift the veto. The House is expected to vote on the issue, but it was unclear when.
“We know this has been happening in offices, back rooms and conversations since the day I was elected,” Byers said on Tuesday. “The shocking part is that it turned out that someone really said it.”
Helmer, 70, said she was at the Statehouse with her mother and young daughter and Byers a few months ago. She said the child was afraid of Byers.
She said she had mistakenly entered the men’s restroom in the House in 2021 and the men were upset. She said she asked them how they would like it if a woman used their toilet regularly, the report said.
She also said that parents should not have the right to change the gender of their children.
“You can’t cut your penis and then expect, you know, a little boy to live his life,” she said. “He will regret it for the rest of his life.”

Bayer said several lawmakers had walked away from her in the elevator, noting that the Kansas GOP platform declared that “We believe God created two sexes, male and female.”
In an interview with the publication, Rifle said that Helmer’s comments were not surprising.
“The rhetoric against the LGBTQ community has been the same for years, that we are a threat to society; “We’re going to hurt people,” Rifle said. I just want to walk and just be myself.
