Everything we know about the death of 10-year-old Lily Peters

Police have arrested a minor on suspicion of murder after the body of a 10-year-old child was found in a Wisconsin forest.

The remains of Iliana “Lily” Peters, who was reported missing on Sunday, were found the next day near her aunt’s house in Chippewa Falls.

After receiving more than 200 reports, police in Chipeva arrested a death suspect, the public said on Tuesday, assuring the public that the danger was over.

“While nothing will bring back Lily Peters or change what has happened, we are very grateful to be able to share this news with the family and the community,” Chipeva Falls Police Chief Matt Kelm told a news conference.

Police did not release the name, gender, age or potential relative of the detainee, although they said they made the arrest following a search warrant at the house of Peters’ aunt, believed to be the last place she was. seen alive.

They added that the young man was “not a stranger” to the dead girl.

Lily reportedly visited her aunt’s house on Sunday and rode her bicycle, but did not return home from what would normally be a six-minute walk. Her father was worried and called the police at 9 p.m.

Police called Lily late Sunday night and eventually found her bike near a wooded area about four blocks from her aunt’s house, “near the sidewalk between the end of N Grove Street and the Leinenkugel Brewery parking lot,” they said.

Police continued to search for Lily and went door-to-door to ask neighbors if they had seen her. The Chippewa Falls Police Department eventually called in K9 units and drones to help with their efforts.

At around 9:15 a.m. Monday, police found Lily’s remains in a wooded area near Chippewa Creek and the brewery. The corner office later confirmed that the remains belonged to Lily.

The police department has announced a new announcement for an investigation and anyone with relevant information is urged to call 1-800-263-5906.

Lily is reportedly a fourth-grader at Parkview Elementary School in Chippewa Falls, and the local school district said she works closely with law enforcement.
