Google Pixel 6 can get an audio feature like Apple’s “Surround Audio”

Earlier today, Google released the first version of Android 13 Beta for supported Pixel devices. According to Esper.io’s Mishaal Rahman via Twitter, files found in the first built-in Android 13 suggest that the Pixel 6 Pro may receive an audio feature such as Apple’s Surround. This feature adds more dimension to the things that are listened to through headphones with the help of software settings.

The spatial tool effect is already included in the new beta, but is not fully activated. A shared library for this feature has been found in the “soundfx” folder and suggests that such a feature may arrive in the Google Pixel duo when public versions of Android 13 are officially released later this year.

Obviously we don’t know if the feature will arrive in Pixel 6 or even older Pixel devices for that matter. We are also not sure whether current or future Pixel Buds models will support the spatial element effect.

If such a feature appeared in the Google Pixel, focusing on audio would help Google compete better with Apple on the first-class audio front. Such a move should also make Google consider launching a competitor AirPods Max.
