The sequel to “Batman” in the work with Robert Pattinson

“Batman” gets a sequel, with Robert Pattinson returning as Gotham’s fiercest defender.

Warner Bros. revealed plans for another Caped Crusader story during a performance Tuesday night at CinemaCon, the annual trade show for theater owners. Batman director Matt Reeves was available to announce the news that he would write and direct the sequel, but did not provide any details on what the film would include.

Batman, a grim three-hour superhero adventure, debuted on the big screen in March, launching $ 134 million in the domestic market. These ticket sales still rank as the biggest opening weekend of 2022, as well as only the second film from the pandemic era to cross the $ 100 million mark in the weekend after Spider-Man: No Way Home. With $ 759 million so far in the world box office, “Batman” is currently the highest grossing film of the year.

In particular, “Batman” marked a return to the exclusive theatrical releases for Warner Bros., after the studio released its entire record for 2021 simultaneously on HBO Max. In the future, Warner Bros. plans to keep its new movies in theaters for 45 days before releasing its new titles on HBO Max. His upcoming titles include “Elvis” (June 24), “DC League of Super-Pets” (July 29), “Creed III” (November 23) and “Shazam! Rage of the Gods ”(December 16).

The Batman looked grimly (albeit at PG-13) at Bruce Wayne’s earlier days as “the greatest detective in the world.” In his quest for justice, the young Dark Knight uncovers corruption in Gotham City as he pursues a manic killer known as Riedler (Paul Dano). The star cast included Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Batman’s butler Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as the crime lord known as Penguin and Jeffrey Wright as Gotham City Police Chief James Gordon. In addition to selling blockbuster tickets, the film was widely acclaimed by critics (85% of Rotten Tomatoes) as well as audiences (received an “A-” CinemaScore).

In a Variety review of Batman, lead film critic Peter Debruge said Reeves had done “something relatively unique here, at least by comic book standards.”

“This grounded, often brutal and almost three-hour noir film is one of the best in the genre, even if – or more appropriately, because – what makes the film so great is its willingness to dismantle and question the very concept of superheroes, “he wrote.

Along with the sequel to Bruce Wayne, Warner Bros. there are several DC venues in the works, including the animated “DC League of Super-Pets” (which hits theaters on July 29) and “Shazam! Fury of the Gods ”(starting December 22). Next year, Jason Momoa will return to Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (March 17), and Ezra Miller will star in The Flash (June 23).
