Fox News presenter Tucker Carlson on Tuesday criticized minority leader in the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy, calling him a “puppet” of the Democratic Party.

Carlson’s remarks came after the New York Times published a bomb report describing how McCarthy was concerned about Republican lawmakers such as Republican Matt Gaetz and their potential for incitement to violence following the Jan. 6 Capitol uprising.

The Times also highlighted how McCarthy, in leaked audio recordings received from the publication, was considering censoring Republican lawmakers.

“Can’t they take away their Twitter accounts?” McCarthy was heard saying during the conversation, probably referring to how former President Donald Trump was banned permanently on Twitter after the uprising.

During his show on Tuesday, Carlson criticized McCarthy for what the MP said during the conversation.

“Kevin McCarthy of California told his close friend Liz Cheney that he hoped social media companies would censor more conservative Republicans in Congress,” Carlson said, adding that Trump was “silenced by those companies” during his presidency.

Carlson noted that McCarthy also expressed a desire for “technology oligarchs” to take more steps to “force disobedient lawmakers out of the Internet.”

Commenting on McCarthy’s proposal to remove some parties from Twitter, Carlson said: “These are the words recorded on tape by Congressman Kevin McCarthy, a man who in private turns out to sound like an MSNBC contributor.”

The Fox News presenter also warned that McCarthy or “one of his highly liberal allies” would likely become Speaker of the House if the Conservatives “do not come together immediately.”

“And that would mean that we would have a Republican Congress led by a puppet of the Democratic Party,” Carlson added.

Last week, The Times reported that McCarthy told members of the People’s Party in the House that he planned to ask Trump to resign after the Capitol uprising. Earlier, McCarthy denied making these comments, both in response to a number of media outlets and in a statement posted on his Twitter account.
