THUNDER BAY – A new outbreak of COVID-19 has been announced in part of the Pioneer Ridge long-term care home in Thunder Bay.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced a fire in Plaza 4 at Tungsten St. on Monday.
This came three days after the COVID outbreak in Plaza 2 was declared over.
An Ontario nursing home outbreak is defined as two or more laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in residents or staff within a 14-day period when at least one case could reasonably have been infected at home.
According to information published by TBDHU, there are currently eight other publicly announced outbreaks in high-risk areas in the area, including one on Pioneer Ridge’s Plaza 1.
Other facilities with ongoing outbreaks are St. Joseph’s Hospital 2N and 5S, Southbridge Roseview Manor, Kwae Kii Wiin Center and Hogarth Riverview Manor 4N, 1N and 5N.
