A family says a man was left to fight for his life after receiving 35 per cent burns when his ground floor apartment and car were the target of an alleged petrol bomb during arson.
Stephen Watson, 50, was rescued from an apartment on the ground floor of St Luke ‘Court, Grimsby, around 6 a.m. Sunday.
A cousin rushed from a nearby home to help him put out the fires in his apartment and in his BMW car, a relative of Grimsby Live said. She said Stephen was initially taken to Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, and later to a burn ward at Wakefield Hospital.

She told how he received 35% burns on his back and legs after a fire in the front room. The relative claims that a petrol bomb was thrown through the window. Another was used to ignite his BMW. Police have arrested two men.
She told Grimsby Live: “He is in very bad shape and we are not sure if he will survive. They had to put him in an induced coma and feed him through a tube. There are burns on the back and back and legs. He would probably have slept in the room. He uses it for sleep and games.

“He hadn’t been out of the hospital for a long time, maybe about three weeks, and Covid had long-term consequences. We are all upset. No one deserves this. We are all grateful to his cousin who ran to him and put out the fires and to all the emergency services who were present. ”

A Humberside police spokesman said today that officers had made additional arrests in the investigation, confirming on Monday that a 21-year-old man had been arrested. He has since been released on bail by police.
A spokesman said: “Two men have been arrested in connection with an incident in which a man was injured in a fire on Heneage Road, Grimsby on Sunday. They called us shortly after 6 in the morning with messages that the car was on fire.

“Emergency services have arrived and the man has been taken to hospital for treatment of injuries that are considered serious but not life-threatening. A 21-year-old man was released on bail by police, and a second 22-year-old man was released. released under investigation while we continue with the lines of investigation.
