Michael Misa OHL Draft Saginaw Spirit

The Saginaw Spirit selected 15-year-old striker Michael Misa on Thursday with his first pick in the Ontario Hockey League Draft.

Hockey Canada granted exclusive status to Misa earlier this month to enter the draft a year earlier.

The 15-year-old Misa recently won the OHL Cup with Mississauga Senators U16 AAA, where she won the OHL Cup MVP after a 20-point performance, breaking the previous record set by Connor McDavid in 2012.

The exclusive status rule was created in 2005, which allows players to apply to play in the KHL one year earlier. A panel of Hockey Canada staff evaluates each application.

The five outstanding players in the OHL are John Tavares, Aaron Ekblad, Connor McDavid, Sean Day and Shane Wright. Joe Veleno is the only player in the history of the Quebec Youth Hockey League to receive the award, while Conor Bedard is the only player in the Western Hockey League to win outstanding status.

Born in Oakville, Ont., He qualifies for the 2025 NHL Draft.
