Baseball players from 2 Century High School were shot dead in Santa Ana, 1 deadly, which led to the search for a suspect

SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) – Two cousins ​​identified as student athletes from Santa Ana’s baseball team at Santa Ana High School were shot dead Thursday night, killing one of the shooters, authorities said.

The two victims were in a car shortly before 7.30 pm in block 1400 on South Minnie Street in Santa Ana, when the suspect approached them on foot and opened fire, according to police.

Officers arrived at the scene in an alley and found an unresponsive man with obvious gunshot wounds to the upper torso, a statement from the Santa Ana Police Department said. Another man was found with a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Orange County firefighters transported both victims to a hospital.

Roberto Iselo, 18, has been pronounced dead at a medical center, police said, citing the office of Orange County’s medical examiner. His 19-year-old unnamed cousin is in stable condition.

Authorities initially identified Iselo and his cousin, aged 19 and 18, respectively.

“The circumstances or motives surrounding the shooting are currently being investigated,” the police department said, adding that detectives were investigating the possibility that the shooting was linked to a gang.

A detailed description of the suspect was not available, but a short video was released, which investigators said showed the person wanted. The footage shows a man in dark clothes, including a sweater with a hood or jacket, walking in the parking lot.

“The SAUSD community is deeply saddened by the death of a student at Century High School,” a statement from the United School District of Santa Ana said, adding that the deceased student was a senior.

“We express our sincere condolences to the student’s family,” the statement said. “Crisis counselors have also been sent to support all students and staff at the school who are coping with this loss.

“Our thoughts are with the Century High School community and we ask that you respect the privacy of your family and school.
