The host of the “Late Late Show” is set to vacate his place in 2023, ending what will now be a series of eight seasons.
Cordon became emotional as he spoke of his decision in his Thursday night monologue.
“When I started this trip, it would always be just that. It would be a trip, an adventure. I never saw it as my final destination,” he said. “I never want this show to interrupt the reception in any way. I always want to love doing it. And I really think that in a year’s time, this will be a good time to move on and see what else can be done. ”
Cordon added that he intends next season to be the “best year” of the show and “come out with a bang.”
“Seven years ago, James Cordon came to the United States and struck television, with huge creative and comedic twists that resonated widely among viewers online and online,” said George Cheeks, president and CEO of CBS, in a statement. CNN.
Cordon’s show was home to popular segments such as “Crosswalk the Musical” and “Carpool Karaoke”, which helped the show generate more than a billion views on YouTube and sparked conversations around the program, despite the sleepy time interval.
“During my two years at CBS, I had the privilege of seeing James’ creative genius up close and experiencing his valuable partnership with CBS, both as a performer and as a producer,” added Cheeks. “We want him to be able to stay longer, but we are very proud that CBS has made its home in the United States and that this partnership will extend another season on The Late Late Show.”
Cordon has hosted the show since 2015.
