McCarthy calls on Biden to remove disinformation board: Orwell Ministry of Truth

House of Representatives Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy joined the Conservative mob, which called on President Biden to overturn his administration’s plan to establish a “Disinformation Management Council” to combat “misinformation” in the 2022 interim terms.

“The same party that spent years promoting the fraud of a secret deal with Russia, suppressed the Hunter Biden laptop story and equated parents with terrorists, believes it trusts to control your speech,” the California Republican tweeted on Friday. “Biden must immediately abandon his plan to establish the Orwell Ministry of Truth.

Republican politicians and commentators across the country rushed on the move, accusing the Biden administration of trying to stifle free speech, and questioned the timing of the move, as it involved the purchase of Twitter by Musk.

“Libyans have spent the last few weeks planting the backup plan in case the Twitter deal does happen,” said Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boubert. “Today’s news of the Biden-backed Disinformation Management Council is anti-utopian. They can’t afford to let the truth be anything other than what they say. “

Republicans also opposed the board’s executive director, Nina Jankovic, who previously served as a disinformation officer at the Wilson Center and faced criticism over several online publications that critics say are hyper-partisan.

“Instead of controlling our border, Homeland Security has decided to make American police speech its top priority,” tweeted Republican Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri. “They’re creating a disinformation board. No, really. And look at the views of the left-wing radical who runs it.”

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News.

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki protected the board said Thursday that “of course we support this effort” and seemingly dismissed concerns about the group’s potential bias when asked by Fox News’s Jackie Heinrich if it could “allay the concerns” the American people may have with Jankovic.

“The board’s goal seems to be to prevent the spread of misinformation and misinformation across the country in a number of communities,” Psaki said. “I’m not sure who opposes this effort.”
