After all the chatter until Thursday night, there was only one quarterback selected in the first round of the 2022 draft.

Kenny Pickett will simply have to use a different door to the building when he enters his new football facility, as the Steelers have chosen him as number 20 overall.

As head coach Mike Tomlin said at a post-election press conference, “[W]I’ve been around the globe – or at least the United States – here for the last few months, man, I’ve just been researching and researching. And it’s funny, we ended up with a neighbor.

Tomlin advertises Pickett’s “high floor” with intangible assets, the quarterback’s expectations and accuracy “obvious and consistent when studying his tape.”

And while the Steelers have met Mason Rudolph, who is already on the list and signed Mitchell Trubyschi with a free agency, there is a chance Pickett will stand behind the Week One center.

“He will certainly be given the opportunity to compete,” Tomlin said.

As Pete shares a building with the Steelers, Tomlin said he is already well acquainted with Pickett.

“I’ve known him for a few years,” Tomlin said. ”

Tomlin will now train Pickett for the foreseeable future.
