The Phoenix Police Department released stunning footage from the April 14 shooting that injured a 40-year-old female police officer.

The shooting took place at a gas station near Cave Creek and Beardsley Road. Police responded to a call for domestic violence and met a woman there, as she told them she was uncomfortable meeting police at her home.

In a phone call to 911 released by police, the woman told police that her friend, 35-year-old Nicholas Cowan, had committed suicide and acted erratically. She fears there will be a violent confrontation if police officers show up where they are.

Body camera footage shows police interviewing a woman when her son Prius stopped. The female police officer, identified as Denise Bruce-Jones, approached the car and was shot, falling backwards. On the side, her partner returns fire on the Prius as he walks away. Shots are seen hitting the walls and windows of the store.

The shooting suspect, later identified as 35-year-old Nicholas Cowan, evaded authorities for several days. He was arrested in Scottsdale after a barricade on April 17.

On Thursday, police announced the arrest of 41-year-old Michael Hankins for allegedly helping Cowen while on the run.

Police said in a statement the possible reason that Hankins allowed Cowen to stay in his apartment for two nights before renting a residence in Scottsdale for the wanted man.

It was not immediately clear if Hankins had a lawyer who could comment on his behalf.
