Russian President Vladimir Putin has told Indonesian President Joko Vidodo that he will attend this year’s G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia said on Friday.
“Last night at 7 o’clock I spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin,” Vidodo said in a statement. “President Putin expressed his gratitude for the invitation to the G20 summit and said he would attend.

The Indonesian president said he had talked with Putin about the importance of reaching a peace agreement with the Ukrainian leadership and ending the war immediately.
The Southeast Asian nation has said it is ready to provide humanitarian support and support the peace process in any way.
Putin’s invitation to the November 20 intergovernmental summit appears to have come a day after Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s, despite the fact that Ukraine is not part of the G20.
Zelenski took to Twitter on Wednesday to share that he and Widodo had spoken.
The two reportedly discussed food security issues – which officials have repeatedly warned would be a global problem exacerbated by Putin’s war in Ukraine.

Zelensky also said he thanked Indonesia for its support for “Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, in particular for a clear position at the UN.”
Widodo said his nation was constitutionally barred from providing weapons to a foreign nation, but Indonesia clarified its position on Russia’s deadly invasion and voted with 140 other nations in the UN General Assembly to ask Putin to withdraw his troops.
Although Indonesia, along with 23 other countries, abstained from a second vote earlier this month, which suspended Russia’s membership of the UN Human Rights Council.
Zelenski thanked Widodo for inviting him to the G20 summit, but did not confirm whether he would attend.

The G20 summit of leaders of the world’s largest economies, including the United States, the EU, Japan, India, Saudi Arabia and China, will discuss issues related to global health, increased digitalisation of the global economy, climate change and energy security – an issue that has regained urgency amid the Russian war in Ukraine.
White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said on Thursday that President Biden welcomed Zelensky’s invitation, but said his position on Moscow was clear.
“The president was clear about his vision: this should not be the usual business and that Russia should not be part of it,” she said.
