MCU’s Fantastic Four will not be directed by Spider-Man

Marvel will need a new director for its upcoming Fantastic Four movie. Director John Watts, who was previously involved in the project, parted ways with the project, citing the need for a break from superhero movies. Deadline announced the move on Friday and it was quickly confirmed by Disney and Watts.

Watts has previously worked with Disney on all three of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man films. The next Watts was accepted to direct the Fantastic Four, but after directing the entire Spider-Man trilogy, he seems to have decided that he needs a break from the superheroes.

“Making three Spider-Man films was an amazing and life-changing experience for me,” Watts said in a statement to Deadline. “I am eternally grateful to be part of the Marvel cinematic universe for seven years. I hope that we will work together again and I can’t wait to see the amazing vision of the Fantastic Four, alive. “

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feigi confirmed that there is no bad blood between the director and the studio, saying: “Working with John on the Spider-Man movies was a real pleasure. We were looking forward to continuing to work with him to introduce the Fantastic Four to the MCU, but we understand and support his reasons for retiring. We are optimistic that we will have the opportunity to work together again at some point in the future. “

Disney announced the Fantastic Four in 2020, but the film was never given a release date.
