Nearly a dozen decaying, mummified bodies of adults, children found in the funeral home

The owner of the funeral home has been charged with 22 counts after the uncreminated remains of 11 people, including babies, were found in stages of decay and mummification.

LOS ANGELES – The owner of a funeral home in Sun Valley faces numerous allegations that he did not bury human remains properly.

According to Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Foyer, 22 criminal charges have been filed against Mark B. Allen Jr. after the uncreminated remains of 11 people, including babies, were found in a state of decay and mummification.

The remains have been found in two separate cases in the last year.

“We are fighting for justice for these families in this incredibly sad and shocking situation. Eleven people died, including very young children, and the funeral director, who was compassionately hired to prepare the bodies for burial, allegedly left them to rot, without the decency or dignity that all our loved ones deserve. Their death is a tragedy, and this alleged monstrous abuse is a second tragedy, “Foyer said.

The California Cemetery and Funeral Home, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office and the LAPD have launched an investigation into the morgue after receiving complaints from family members.

During a press conference on Friday, Foyer said the smell was so bad that staff arriving at the scene could find it outside the facility.

The morgue on San Fernando Road has since closed.

Alan faces a maximum sentence of $ 110,000 and up to 11 years in prison.
