Thomas Cook warns the British who are planning an all-inclusive holiday in Spain

Holidaymakers in the UK face a limit on the amount of alcohol they can consume while traveling abroad.

Travel agent Thomas Cook told customers heading to Spain that new rules have been introduced in the sunny European nation. This is part of a local crackdown on drunken Britons, which is causing problems for local authorities, writes the Daily Star.

The Balearic Islands – which include the popular destinations of Ibiza and Mallorca – have introduced measures to guide tourists to all-inclusive holidays there. This type of holiday often comes with an unlimited amount of alcohol.

However, under the new measures, bettors will be allowed to drink only six drinks a day. In addition, they will be limited to lunch and dinner, which means that people will be allowed only three bites to eat.

The destination of Mallorca Magaluf, which has become a haven for traveling Britons, is one of the places where the rule is introduced. It has also been introduced in several areas of Ibiza.

The rules were mentioned to Thomas Cook customers by email. The travel agency said: “Please note that the government of the Balearic Islands has issued a decree on a new restriction on the All Inclusive dining option.

“A maximum of six alcoholic beverages per person per day can be served and these drinks will only be provided during lunch and dinner (three each). Please note that Magaluf, El Arenal, Playa de Palma in Mallorca and Sant Antoni in Ibiza have a new All Inclusive limit. “

To make matters worse for tourists hoping to enjoy some sun, sea and alcohol, the Balearic government has also banned pubs. Additional measures also prevent the sale of alcohol in stores between 9:30 pm and 8 am and stop advertising for boat parties in certain areas.

Iago Negeruela, the Minister for Tourism in the Balearic Islands, said in the past: “We want British tourists – we don’t want this kind of tourism. British tourism is essential for our islands. We share with the British government the view that some of the photos of British tourists are embarrassing.

“We want to put an end to bad behavior. We will increase the police presence in these areas and the number of inspectors – we will have zero tolerance for excesses in tourism.”

Thomas Cook told the Daily Star: “Certain areas of the Balearic Islands have some restrictions on alcohol consumption. We want to make sure our customers are aware when they book. ”
