“It was surreal – when we got off, we could see the flames under the hood”: dramatic photos catch fire in the bus

Dramatic photos and videos show the moment a bus caught fire in Bury this afternoon.

Emergency services were called on Longsight Road in Ramsbottom around 3pm after a burning bus. It is unknown at this time what caused the incident, in which two fire engines arrived at the scene.

Darren Fazakerli was on the bus bound for Bury for a few holiday drinks with his wife when he stopped on Longsight Road.

“Several boys who were getting on told the bus driver that the bus was burning in front and they thought it was the engine,” he told Manchester evening news .

“The bus driver got down to look around and rushed back and told everyone to get off quickly. It was a little surreal, because when we got off, we saw the flames under the hood of the bus. “

“Everyone got off the bus quickly thanks to the driver and most of them got on another bus, at that time the flames went up the windshield,” he said.

“Fortunately, everyone was fine, just a little shocked, because we thought the young boys who got on the bus were just kidding.

A GMFRS spokesman said: “At approximately 3pm on Sunday, May 1, two fire trucks from Ramsbottom and Bolton North fire stations were present at a fire on a Longsight Road vehicle in Greenmount, Bury.

“The fire affected a bus that was on fire when fire crews arrived on the scene. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two spools of hoses to put out the fire and were present for about an hour.

Residents say they saw the driver and a passenger standing in the road after the 472 Diamond Bus stopped. It is assumed that no one was injured.

A Diamond Bus North West spokesman said: “We are aware of the incident and will investigate with the fire department and our own internal procedures.”
