Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue reunite for Neighbors final | Neighbours

They were one of the most popular couples on TV, and now they’re reuniting, especially for you – or at least for the Neighbors viewers. Scott and Charlene, played by Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue, will return in more than 30 years for the show’s finale.

Jason Herbison, executive producer of the Australian soap, said the couple were “the best couple of neighbors and it wouldn’t feel right to end the show without them.”

“We are excited that Jason and Kylie have returned home to play a very special role in the finale of our series. It was an emotional experience for them, for us, and I’m sure it will be for our viewers as well. “

Minogue and Donovan posted a photo of what looked like a flash of a Neighbors script on their Instagram accounts.

The two will return to the show, which first aired in 1985 and focuses on the fictional dead end of Ramsey Street in Melbourne, before halting production in June after it was shut down by its television station.

Minogue and Donovan, 53, played Scott Robinson and Charlene Mitchell until they left in 1989 and 1988, respectively.

The couple was the strong couple on Ramsey Street and a favorite of the audience.

Their wedding episode was watched by more than 2 million Australian viewers when it first aired in 1987, and later attracted almost 20 million audiences when it was shown in the UK in 1988, becoming one of the most popular. -watched TV moments of the decade.

The announcement delighted fans of the show in the UK and Australia.

“That means so much!” wrote one viewer. “Of course I’m not taking away from the amazing current cast, but the iconic Scott and Charlene to return for the end is absolutely the icing on the cake!”

After it was announced that the soap would stop production, Minogue said she would be forever grateful for the experience and the friends I made at Neighbors.

“We had no idea how big the show would be and how passionately viewers would take it to heart.”

Donovan said he found the news sad and added: “I think it’s time to celebrate the neighbors.”

“Honestly, this has kept my family at work for a long time,” he said. “My daughter is in it now, my father was in it. I think we should be grateful for what is given to Australia, to actors, producers, writers, directors. “

Along with Minogue and Donovan, the soap helped launch the careers of Hollywood stars such as Margo Robbie and Liam Hemsworth.

In March, the soap announced that “after the loss of our key broadcasting partner in the UK and despite widespread demand for alternative funding, we simply have no choice but to stop the show.”

“We regret to say that after nearly 37 years and almost 9,000 episodes aired, we must confirm that Neighbors will suspend production in June,” the statement said.

“For our amazing, loyal fans, we know this is a huge disappointment, as it is for all of us on the team. Thank you for all your messages and support and we promise to finish the show at an incredibly high level. From now on, we celebrate the neighbors. “
