A body found in a forest in Lancashire has been identified as missing 33-year-old Katie Kenyon, police confirmed.
Lancashire police said she was found dead after her death as a result of head injuries.
Officials said the body was found Friday night in Bowland Forest. They searched after receiving new information about the whereabouts of the mother of two children from Padiham, near Burnley.
On Sunday afternoon, the forces tweeted: “Now we can sadly confirm that the body found in the Bowland Forest is that of Katie Kenyon.
“We found Katie on Friday after a long search and now she is officially identified as the missing mother of Padiham, 33 years old.
“Yesterday an autopsy was performed at the Ministry of Interior and the cause of death was head injuries.
“Our thoughts remain with Katie’s family and loved ones at this difficult time. The family continues to be supported by our specially trained officers. ”
Kenyon was last seen at around 9.30am on Friday, April 22, when she was believed to be traveling in a silver Ford Transit van heading from Burnley to the Bolton-by-Bowland area of Lancashire.
Andrew Burfield, 50, was charged Wednesday with her murder. He appeared via video link in Preston’s court on Friday and spoke only to confirm his identity during the seven-minute hearing.
Burfield of Todmorden Road, Burnley, has been remanded in custody on November 14.
On Saturday afternoon, Det Supt Gary Brooks, head of Lancashire’s main police investigation, said: “I would like to thank the public and the media for all the help they have given us during what has been a long, complex and very emotional search. and I would also like to thank both the partner agencies and all the police officers and officers who were involved in the search for Katie.
“While this is not the conclusion of this quest that any of us would want, I know the family appreciates this effort.”
