One person was killed and several others were injured in an incident with multiple gunmen during the Mississippi Muddy Tiny Festival at the Jackson State Fair on Saturday, Hinds County Sheriff Tyrie Jones said.

At least two people were detained at the scene, which was “detained and secured,” Jones said on social media late Saturday.

“Several shooters are believed to be involved and the investigation is being conducted as an active shooter situation,” Jones said on Twitter.

Several people were transported to local hospitals with unknown injuries, he said.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has been called in to co-operate in the investigation following a shooting involving an officer in connection with the fair incident, Jones said.

The Mississippi Mud Festival, which was scheduled to last until Sunday, included live bands, carnival walks and crab cooking. This year’s music headliners include Blue Oyster Cult, Laine Hardy and Bobby Rush.
