Concluded: Criminal justice caught up in April and what happened to them

April was a busy month for the courts in Wales. Three men have been jailed for their involvement in the “cowardly” murder of their father in Newport, Ryan O’Connor.

Joseph Jeremy and Lewis Aquilina launched a brutal attack on 26-year-old Ryan O’Connor before stealing his Gucci bag. Witnesses describe Jeremy laughing as Mr. O’Connor lies and dies in a pool of blood. He received five stab wounds – including one that pierced his left lung and heart.

Other convictions include a husband who killed his estranged wife in a brutal attack and left the body of a mother of four under a pile of clothes, and a minibus driver thrown in jail for causing the deaths of a young brother and sister.

Here are the criminals and their crimes:

Joseph Jeremy, Louis Aquilina and Kyle Raisis

Three men responsible for the murder of their father in Newport Ryan O’Connor are starting their lives behind bars. Jeremy, 18, and Aquilina, 20, were sentenced to life in prison with double-digit sentences of 24 and 22 years, respectively, for the murder of Mr O’Connor. The two will be in their 40s before being considered on release under license, but a judge warned them that they may never become free men again for what he called their “vicious and cowardly attack”.

Russell Marsh

The ruthless husband who killed his wife will spend at least the next 25 years behind bars.

The 29-year-old was estranged from his wife when he broke into Jade Ward’s home in North Wales before stabbing and strangling her. The court heard that the 27-year-old Mrs. Ward “continues her life” after she broke up with Marsh.

After carrying out his horrific attack, Marsh hid the body of the mother of four under a pile of clothes to be found by police at her home in Shoton, North Wales. Judge Rhys Rowlands condemned Marsh for carrying out a “wild and ruthless attack” simply because his estranged wife wanted to move on. Her brave family applauded when the judge sentenced Marsh to life in prison for a minimum of 25 years. He was convicted of murder last week by a jury. You can read more about this story here.

Martin Newman

The driver of the killer van is responsible for the fatal crash of the M4, in which two young brothers and sisters lost their lives while their loving mother was seriously injured. The 41-year-old man was seen crossing the highway before the crash on February 5 this year, which killed four-year-old Gracie-Ann Lucas and three-year-old Jaden-Lee Lucas, both known by the surname Whitton.

At the sentencing hearing, artist and decorator Newman – who pleaded guilty to two counts of causing death while driving dangerously, one to causing serious injuries while driving dangerously and one to driving while intoxicated and drugged – was sentenced to nine years and four months. . The sentence is currently being reconsidered.

Matthew Clemo

A drunk driver killed his grandfather after his van hit the victim’s motorcycle, but he was so drunk that he continued to drive. The killer was more than twice the legal limit on driving after drinking vodka and cider.

Clemo, 51, killed 76-year-old Michael Partridge after a clash in Bedvas, Caerphiles, on September 25 last year. Mr Partridge died on the spot as a result of his injuries after being squeezed between the van and the parked car.

He repeatedly attacked the mother of his child and controlled her life for almost a year. The 26-year-old began a relationship with Ravel Roxana Grimble in 2018.

However, between September 22, 2020 and August 22, 2021, when the couple lived on a property in the St. Melns area of ​​Cardiff, O’Dear’s behavior changed and he became violent and in control of his partner. He repeatedly attacked his victim and left her with black eyes and at one point with a broken arm.

The 44-year-old from Barry founded the club, based in South Wales, but took advantage of his position and access to young boys to rape his victim. Locke is said to be “immature” and sends inappropriate texts to club members.

Richard Thompson

He threw a gas cylinder and a concrete slab through the windows of a pensioner and threatened to burn down her house.

Thompson fled the scene, but returned later that night and used a wooden fence post to attack a member of the victim’s family who came to her aid.

The thief broke into a woman’s house on New Year’s Eve shortly after he rang her front door with a fake story about a missing dog.

Charlton, who has a long history of committing crimes of dishonesty, took jewelry, including a gold necklace and pearl earrings, from his victim’s house after returning to the property and sneaking inside. An accomplice who was with him during the night remains at large.

Ryan Thomas

An elderly man who had just bought several boxes of camp from his local store was robbed by another customer who pushed, threatened and abused him.

Thomas was furious when he asked the 73-year-old man for one of his recently purchased Carling boxes and was told no. After abusing the pensioner, the 28-year-old pushed and shoved the man before directing his aggression at staff and the public outside a shop in the Afan Valley.

Samuel Morris

The 23-year-old from Swansea was sentenced to 11 years in prison on 40 charges of sex crimes against children between the ages of 11 and 15.

Morris, of Heol-yr-Eos, Penllergaer, pleaded guilty on all counts. His crimes include inciting children to intrusion, inciting sexual activity and numerous crimes of sexual communication with a child. He also pleaded guilty to possession of indecent images of children of categories A, B, C, extreme pornography and prohibited images, as well as distributing obscene images of children online.

Gavin Tainton

He subjected a retiree to a horrific home robbery and then threatened a store employee with a knife after he was released from prison.

Tainton was jailed in 2015 after breaking into the 88-year-old woman’s home just as she was getting ready for bed. After throwing her on the floor, he tied her up with wires and took £ 15 and some of her jewelry.
