A parish councilor spoke about attempts to take safety measures on the road where three people were killed near St. Austell on Sunday, May 1. Matthew Luke of Trevorbin Parish Council offered his condolences to the families involved and said he was “very sorry” to hear about the “terrible” accident.
The incident happened in the early hours, and the police arrived at the scene at 1.30 am. Officers were informed that there was a collision of a car on B3274. Fire and ambulance crews were also present. Three people died on the spot, and officers are conducting investigations today to verify their identities and find their loved ones. A fourth man, who left the crash site, was later found. No further details are known about the man’s condition, but police said yesterday they feared he could be seriously injured. Officers from the team for the investigation of severe clashes are clarifying the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Cllr Matthew Luke said he was campaigning for traffic in Rudlemore to ensure roads were safer. Speed cameras were just one of the traffic measures he hoped to introduce.
He said: “We have wanted measures to move across Rudlmur and the wider river valley for years and years and years. So far, unfortunately, nothing has happened in terms of what we asked for. We wanted speed cameras and all kinds of traffic measures, but nothing is ahead. We said that it was dangerous to stop completely along the whole road. We hoped to take action using the money left over from Roche’s bypass. Unfortunately, nothing is in place as of yet. “
Cllr Luke added: “It’s just awful to hear what happened, especially for the poor people and their families affected. I just want to say how sorry I am to hear that this terrible thing has happened.
