Ian Given, 45, was shot while delivering food on a scooter in Forest Hills, Queens

NEW YORK – Ian Given, a food delivery worker, was shot and killed while riding his scooter in Queens on Saturday night.

It happened near 108th Street and 67th Drive in Forest Hills around 9:30 p.m., hours after Mayor Eric Adams met with New York City police commanders to tackle rising crime.

His last moments were filmed before he was shot dead in the middle of a residential street.

The 45-year-old food delivery man was seen getting on his scooter and coming out on 108th Street when someone approached him and shot him in the chest.

Ian’s grieving widow, still shocked and unable to handle the loss, told CBS2’s Christina Fan that by the time she arrived at the hospital, he was already missing.

“I was told, ‘Your husband is dead.’ I told them they were lying. My heart broke. I told him, please, stand up and come home with me, “said Kun Ying Zhao.

Family members said Ian was the most loving and hard-working father of three, at least 2 years old. Every day for 14 years, he worked from dawn to dusk at the Great Wall Restaurant in Queens. He recently opened a laundromat with his wife to better provide for his children.

“At first we all thought he was robbed, but I can’t understand that he was killed for no reason on the street,” said nephew Cheng Long Huang.

Ian’s assassination came less than 24 hours after Mayor Adams held a rare weekend meeting with district commanders, urging decisions to stem the rising tide of crime.

As of Sunday, each district receives a violence reduction coordinator. But neighbors said they were worried about the changes happening fast enough.

Asked what makes them wonder, one man said, “Who’s in the neighborhood who would do something like that. What else could they do in the future if they didn’t find them?”

Police are asking for help in finding the shooter, who they say was driving a light gray or brown Lexus east on 67th Highway.
